Project Summary

Restoration of a historic house once used as part of a school for deaf African-American children.

Details

The Colonel John Williams House was built in 1825 by William’s wife, Melinda, while he was in Guatemala serving as Charge’d Affaires to the Federation of Central America. Designed in the Federal Style, this two story brick structure was built on the central hall plan with a single story front porch. The front façade has five bays each containing 1/12 light sash windows with stone lintels. The house was restored in 2008-2009 after sitting vacant for many years and in 2010 received a preservation award from Knoxville Heritage. The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
