Ralph Borsodi, 1968

“Solving the land problem is the beginning of solving all social problems.”

Aldo Leopold, 1949

“We abuse the land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect.”

E. F. Schumacher

"In order to turn potentiality into reality, the task of education must be first and foremost the transmission of ideas, of values."

SUMMARY

Low-cost, off-grid housing - designed collaboratively with the occupants - as part of the Clearfork Community Institute's efforts with Woodland Community Land Trust. The Clearfork Community Institute partners with the Woodland Community Land Trust, a community-initiated organization, whose mission is to purchase and hold lands for local residents who might otherwise be landless. This part of rural Appalachia has a majority of the land owned by out of state and out of country corporations. Through re-purchase of land, local residents have a secure base with which to begin holistic community development from a rural perspective. (text from the Center for Social Concerns)
